Tarragon Alabaster Drake is the primary force of good and the King of the Dragons in Roar! Mighty Dragon Precure. He leads his people to the mainland at the beginning of the story, landing in Freedom's Grove, Texas and setting in motion the events of the story.

He and his sister Terma fight against The Lady of the Lake, who seeks to slay the last of the Dragons.

Appearance

Human Form

In his human form, Tarragon is a tall, fit young man with long black hair tied into dreadlocks that go down to his shoulders. He has red eyes with reptilian pupils, as well as golden skin and scales underneath his eyes. He also has large canine teeth that poke out of his lips. He is somewhat muscular, and he takes care of his appearance. He is never seen without his crown, and has several fancy, royal outfits he switches between while in this form.

Dragon Form

While in his Dragon form, Tarragon is a massive, brown and ivory colored dragon, with golden skin under his eyes and the tip of his tail. His wings are also tipped with gold on the spines, and the skin is ivory. He has massive, white claws and teeth. He also has two horns atop his head, which also fade to gold. Down Tarragon's spine there are spikes with ivory webbing. His crown also grows with him in this form, still circling his head, however with less adornment than in his human form.

Personality

"I am sick and tired of relocating our people! They deserve a home, something permanent."

Tarragon is a driven, serious person who wishes nothing more than to see his people prosper. Everything he does is with the Dragons in mind, as he was raised from birth to consider his people first. However, underneath his cool and diplomatic exterior, he is still just a teenager and yearns for a normal life. He takes time to breathe when he can, and is grateful that his people are understanding. He is bitter from years of war with the Paladins, and has trouble seeing good in things right away. He has a temper when it comes to the Paladins and the war, but he tries to never take it out on others who don't deserve it.

Outside of his duties as a King, Tarragon enjoys learning more about current human culture, spending time with the Cures, and trying new things he's never seen on Wyvern Glen. Tarragon is fluent in English, although it isn't called that by the Dragons. With the use of Numen, Tarragon is capable of speaking and understanding every language in spoken form.

History

Tarragon grew up on Wyvern Glen with his parents and twin sister Terma. From a very young age, he was groomed in combat, politics, how to lead his people, and how to protect them from the Paladins. He was set to inherit the title of Prince, and his sister was to inherit the title of Warrior, on their 12th birthdays - when all Dragons are considered of age. After only having their titles for a few months, their parents were killed in an attack by the Paladins. Tarragon became King at only 12, and Terma became Champion - leader of their army. Their people trusted them, as they were raised for their roles and proved capable in their duties. He and his sister, capable of using strong magic, created a barrier called the Isla Mist in order to shroud their island from the Paladins and keep them from finding the Dragons. This proved effective, at least for several years.

Eventually, when Tarragon was 18, the Paladins attacked again and found their island once more. They came in force, and the Dragons were forced to flee their island to find a new home, and possibly, the only thing that could defeat the Paladins for good - the Gilded Scales. Using an ancient spell his parents set in place, he took his people and fled to the mainland to find their only hope. In the process, he had to leave behind his sister, Terma, to keep the Lady of the Lake at bay. He ended up in Freedom's Grove, Texas, the largest source of other Numen on the mainland.

Dragon Form

"I am King Tarragon Alabaster Drake, the 47th King of the Dragons. A pleasure to meet you."

Abilities/Powers

  • Form Shifting: His normal, birth form is that of a giant Dragon. However, through the use of Numen, he is able to turn between this form and that of a smaller, human appearance. He still has Dragon-like traits in this form, however.
  • Powerful Jaws: In his Dragon form, Tarragon's jaws are powerful enough to crush a tree like it was a twig, among other things.
  • Swordsmanship: In his human form, Tarragon is skilled in the art of swordsmanship.
  • Numen: Using the Dragons' magic, known as Numen, he is able to use many kinds of spells that even the Cures aren't able to, due to his years of training. There are also several secret royal spells that only he and his sister know, used only in times of absolute, immediate danger.

Relationships

  • Fayre McCoy: Tarragon feels indebted to Fayre, for being the first step towards getting his home back. He enjoys her company very much, and cares for her a lot. He becomes very close to her during the series, and through her learns to be a normal person when he isn't busy being a King.
  • Yaretzi Vasquez: Similarly to Fayre, Tarragon comes to care for Yaretzi a great deal and becomes very close with her. He enjoys helping her overcome her worries, and is always willing to help her whenever she needs. He is always looking out for her well being.
  • Zhilan Ouyang: Tarragon was wary of Zhilan at first, not sure about their approach to things and their self-interested attitude. Eventually, when Zhilan opens up, they become good friends and understand one another. He enjoys sparring with them, and feels comfortable talking about war strategies with them when they're up for it.
  • Charity Howell: Tarragon is grateful for Charity's support towards his cause. He considers her a friend, although he gives her distance since he knows she is quite nervous around him. Eventually, they relax and get to know each other better, and though they aren't extremely close, they consider each other comrades.
  • Josie Laghari: He knows Josie cares a lot, and appreciates her looking after him to make sure he feels at home. He enjoys Josie's company, and the two often meet up to do small things together to help Tarragon get used to human customs. On the battlefield, he knows she is a capable warrior and appreciates all of her efforts on his behalf.

Trivia

  • Tarragon's original outfit was all black and grey, and was originally going to have armor with it, but it was scrapped for the current design.
  • Tarragon's middle name, Alabaster, refers to the whitish-cream color in his dragon form.
  • The name 'Tarragon Drake' is actually two different forms of the word 'Dragon.' Tarragon comes from the ancient Greek word, drakōn, and Drake is an old English term for young or small Dragons.
